Sculptra

A Little-Known Cosmetic FillerIntroducing Sculptra Aesthetic. Not an overnight miracle. Long-lasting. Not a quick fix, it is the first facial injectable that gives you subtle results over time. Replacing lost collagen gives you a more natural-looking appearance, without giving you away. As your face ages, your skin becomes less elastic and you lose volume from beneath the skin. Dr. Miles sometimes performs fat transfer to restore this lost volume, but Sculptra can restore the lost volume, and you can turn back the clock without surgery!

Sculptra has been used throughout Europe since 1999 to improve the appearance of aging skin folds, indented chin surfaces, hollowed cheeks, and sunken eyes. Sculptra recently received approval from the FDA for the treatment of deep nasolabial folds (smile lines) and other facial wrinkles.

Sculptra is an injectable form of poly L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible (will not harm the body) and biodegradable (can be broken down by the body) synthetic polymer from the alpha-hydroxy family, which has been used since the 1970s, as a monofilament suture to close surgical wounds. It is used to flatten nasolabial folds (the fold between the edge of the nostril and the corner of the mouth), deeper creases, and wrinkles. It is also used to “plump” up and sculpt the face in areas where fat has been lost. A series of treatments at intervals of a few weeks to a month is required. The number of treatments depends on the desired result, but most patients require 3-4 treatments to achieve the desired result. Sculptra provides up to 80 percent improvement in treated areas. It produces results that are fully evident in three to six treatment sessions and lasts up to two years. The maximum contour improvement is usually reached after a few months and may last up to 2 years or more. For sustained results, it is likely that periodic touch-up treatments will be necessary.
